the prophecy is complete. THE SECOND SON is on shelves now!
and with that, I am now the author of four published books!
In September of 2020, I was struck by the vision of a girl who bottled up her emotions and sold her sadness to support her family, at the cost of her own mental health. In 2021, I realized her story fit perfectly alongside that of a ruthless princess in pursuit of the crown at any cost, including the life of her youngest sister. In 2023, The Third Daughter was published, and today, Sabine’s and Elodie’s stories come to an end in The Second Son.
That’s right, The Second Son, the conclusion to my Betrayal Prophecies duology, is on shelves now in hardcover, e-book, and audio format.
If The Third Daughter was a book about learning how to reclaim and coexist with sadness, The Second Son is about unlocking and learning to harness anger. These books are about the duality of emotions, about the expectations placed on men to be led by anger and women to be led by sadness, to learn how to break down the barriers and demands of the word and just feel. It’s about paying homage to the past, to star-crossed relationships, about legacy, and impact, and love.
My first foray into writing a series has been quite a journey (one I am not necessarily eager to embark upon again for some time), but I am so grateful for the time I was given to spend in the queendom of Velle with Sabine and her sadness and Elodie and her ambition.
I’m so grateful for the efforts of everyone who got me here, for the chance to write whimsical, fantastical worlds and complex, emotional girls. Thank you for coming on this adventure with me, for helping me become the author of four published books (with more still to come)!
A few housekeeping items:
If you’re looking to snag a signed/personalized copy of The Second Son, you can still do so via Books of Wonder. You’ll also get a gorgeous print of Elodie, Sabine & Tal by artist Audrey Estok.
If you’re in the NYC area, I’ll be at Books of Wonder on Thursday, July 18 for their YA Summer Fantasy & Suspense Event, which kicks off at 6pm EST. I’d love to see you there!
If you want to support The Second Son during release week, here are a few ways to do so:
Tell your friends/post on social media! It takes seeing something an average of seven times before someone will take the plunge to purchase something, so if you enjoyed the read and want to share Elodie’s & Sabine’s story, tell someone about it!
Leave a review on Goodreads or a retail site (B&N or Amazon)! Reviews go a long way toward convincing others to pick up a book, especially if they don't know the author or are looking outside a genre they usually read in.
Get your copy from an independent bookstore (if possible). Indie bookstores and booksellers are essential to this industry, and any and all support you can give them means the world.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. And as always, happy reading.
